Physio Prabaharan dies of cancer

MALAYSIAN sports lost another well known personality as experienced physiotherapist K. Prabaharan lost his battle with prostrate cancer and died in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. He was 54.

Prabaharan leaves behind wife Chan Sok Gan, daughter Raynuga and sons Ravin and Renesh. Better known as Praba, he began his career as a physiotherapist with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in the early 80s and was roped in by Kuala Lumpur FA's (KLFA) then president Tan Sri Elyas Omar in 1984.

He served KLFA until 1999 and remained a senior physiotherapist until 2005 when he decided take up optional retirement and set up his own private sports physiotherapy and rehabilitation clinic in Brickfields.

Praba had also assisted the national team on several occasions but his priority had always been the KLFA where he even coached their women's football team in the late 80s and early 90s. Former KLFA secretary Datuk K. Rasalingam remembers Praba as a jovial individual who always found time to help not only players but also officials and DBKL staff whenever they needed his services.

"It's is a great loss. You can never find someone who had such complete credentials. "Praba was a very good physio who had helped many football players recover from injuries. He was always a friend to all," said Rasalingam. "His physiotherapy sessions were never dull as he joked and sung to make his patients feel at ease.

"He was also a qualified coach who trained with the players and understood their needs."
